Deborah-Lee Furness was born on December 8, 1955, in Sydney, Australia.

Her childhood and adolescence were spent in Melbourne, where she graduated from high school. At the tender age of eight, Furness's father tragically died in a plane crash, leaving her mother to raise her alone.

Furness began her television career at the age of 20 with a role in the police drama "Prisoner." She later starred in "Falcon Crest" before moving to New York City to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Graduating in the early 1980s, she returned to Australia to pursue a career in television and film.
